Sealed Bid Notice

The Monroe County Highway Department will be taking sealed bids on a 2008 F250 4×2 Pickup truck. Sealed bids will be accepted until 10:00 AM on Friday, January 10, 2025 in the Highway Department Office. Bid sheets may be acquired at the Highway Department Office by calling 618-939-8682.

Inspection by appointment at the Monroe County Highway Department Office.

OPERATOR/LABORER

The Monroe County Highway Department is seeking to hire a full-time Operator/Laborer.  Please submit your application to the County Engineer at the Monroe County Annex, 901 Illinois Ave, Suite B, Waterloo, IL  62298 by January 31, 2025, for consideration.  Applications currently on file, which are more than 1 year old, will not be considered. JOB TITLE – OPERATOR/LABORER

DESCRIPTION – Under direction of the Foreman this individual shall be required to perform manual tasks and operate/drive the various pieces of highway maintenance equipment.

EQUIPMENT – The individual must be capable of driving a six-ton dump truck with air brakes and trailer.  In addition, proficiency in the operation of a wheel loader, mowing tractor, and motor grader will be required with on the job training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lifting/loading 90 lbs. material
  • Climbing ladders and equipment
  • Driving dump truck
  • Operating equipment
  • Operate chain saw
  • Dig ditches
  • Use sledgehammer
  • Extended time on feet
  • Traffic Flagging

SPECIAL CONDITIONS – During snow removal operations the Department operates on a 24-hour basis with approximately 12-hour shifts, all operators are required to drive plows, etc. during these operations.

QUALIFICATIONS – All operators shall, within 90 days of employment, obtain the Illinois Drivers License (CDL) for operation of a six-ton dump truck with air brakes and tag-along trailer.

UNION AFFILIATION – The position is covered by an agreement with the United Steelworkers of America.  As a condition of continued employment, all employees included in the collective bargaining unit set forth in Article 1 of the Agreement, beginning 31 days after the start of their employment with the Employer, shall become members of the Union and pay to the Union the periodic monthly dues and initiation fees uniformly required of all Union members or pay to the Union a fair share fee equivalent to the periodic monthly dues uniformly required of Union members.

COMPENSATION – $15.00/hour, First Year, Not Negotiable, Contractual Department
